Today we welcome Melbourne based Kate & Noonie from TheSuperCool!
Inspired by a trip to Buenos Aires and a man named “Paco”,
Kate & Noonie are committed to showcasing and selling affordable,
everyday objects through a fun, interactive unique shopping experience
- the mobile emporium!

What is the essence and vision of your shop that you strive
to bring to your customers?

We believe in offering a unique mix of everyday objects – cool things for
your home / studio / space that have been carefully considered and made
from small independent designers from around the globe as well as some
fun things from some more recognised brands. We like to offer a fun,
interactive retail experience… a sense of “what will this emporium
of random things surprise me with this time?”

Who shops at TheSuperCool ?
What brings customers to your store?

We have a mix of customers. Kids who love our quirky products and
save up the pocket money, teenagers wanting to buy a cool gift, young,
creative types who are renting who like to decorate their home/
desk space / studio with unusual things to young couples who are in the
“nesting & decorating diy” phase where they want to do something
different with their space to mature shoppers looking to renovate,
buy a gift for their grandchild etc. We have literally got all types of
people coming in but they all share a love of either quirky,
unique things, vintage pieces or just want a laugh at some of our
cheeky cards/ signs.

What is the best thing about owning your own business?
The satisfaction of guiding your own destiny, watching a business you
created from an idea morph into reality and more than anything the
mix of creativity and business skills you need to make it work.

How much of your style flows into how you live,
how you dress, what you read?

I think its actually the reverse. Our style has always been reflected in
our reading, personal style, lifestyle choices and shopping habits
and its been this style and love of all things unusual that gave birth to
TheSuperCool.  Walking into the TheSuperCool is a very personal sneak
peek into our world to be honest… we feel very connected to the products,
the designers behind them and why we chose those pieces. It genuinely
gives us joy to see the reactions of customers and their delight in
purchasing something from TheSuperCool.

We know what we love about TheSuperCool but what do
you love about Paper Runway?

We think the extent to what you can do with paper is so well researched
and curated. We think the mix of content and the art direction is really
impressive as well. We’ve also been happy to see that some of the
brands we support and stock in TheSuperCool have been featured
in Paper Runway.

What enlivens your creativity day in, day out?
Pinterest. Instagram. Magazines. Blogs. New Shops. Other Creatives.

What makes you happy?
Kate - My niece Ruby’s love of being around us. Reading a book in bed.
Good laughs with friends over mexican food. When you arrive somewhere
on a holiday on the first day and anything is possible.
Noonie - My new puffer vest keeping me cosy. Playing Soccer.
My mum’s awesome argentinean food. Good funky tunes.

Which blogs do you read daily? Your best blog find?
The usual suspects – design sponge, daily imprint, yellowtrace.
I’m truly loving pinterest and instagram for constantly inspiring me
with new ideas, funny moments and pocket sized stimulation.

What is your favourite paper product?
Hmmmm…. you ask the hard questions don’t you? I would probably
say the signs we made for the various stages of your life.
They make great photo’s and they continue to entertain and delight
our customers!

a. We’re Engaged – He Asked, She Said Yes
b. It’s Official, We’re Married- Mr & Mrs
c. It’s a boy – It’s a girl
d. Welcome to our Casa – Home Sweet Home
e. All you need is …. – Love, Sex Money
f. I’ve finally graduated… – Show me the $$$

What is your relationship to paper? How different is
working on paper to working with any other medium?
What freedoms does it allow and what are its limitations?

We don’t personally create that much with paper but in terms of the
brands we stock that work with paper, I love seeing people do unique
things… whether its unusual packaging, giving an old technique like
letterpress a new modern context or challenging what’s possible to
make with paper… I think there’s a whole new generation of people
using paper in a really modern, slick way but applying it to hip
new styles.

Thanks so much Kate & Noonie for your time!
